Balloon catheter | A tube with a balloon at its tip for dilating arteries, used in angioplasty |
Barium | Dense, radiopaque liquid suspension used as contrast agent in some gastrointestinal x-ray studies |
Biocompatibility | The quality of not having toxic or injurious effects on biological function |
Biomaterials | Any substance, synthetic or natural, that can be used as a system or part of a system that treats, augments, or replaces any tissue, organ, or function of the body |
Biopsy | Procurement of a small sample of tissue for analysis |
Biopsy channel | Hollow passage in endoscope through which instruments can be passed to perform biopsy or deliver treatment |
Biotechnology | The industrial use of living organisms (or parts of living organisms) to make or modify products, improve plants or animals, or develop microorganisms for specific uses |
Blood glucose monitor | A device that quantitatively measures glucose concentrations in the blood |
Body orifice | Any natural opening in the body, as well as the external surface of the eyeball, or any permanent artificial opening, such as a stoma |
Bougie | A tapering or cylindrical instrument introduced into a tubular passage of the body, such as the oesophagus, for the purpose of dilating or narrowing |
Brachytherapy | Placement of a radioactive source in or near tissue to deliver radiation therapy |
